LIVE LOUD!

You've gotta grab hold of life with both hands because it is all too soon over. Life is short! LIVE, BREATH, GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY!

I've decided you can't make everyone happy and you free yourself of a lot of stress, grief, and worry when you focus on what you can control, which is making yourself happy.

Recently I had someone ask me why I do fitness when I'm 52 and not a gymnast? I guess they thought I was out of my league with 22 year olds. Well guess they didn't know, I'm in a league of my own called FEISTY!

Why do I do Fitness Competitions? Fitness Universe

Here are some of my reasons:
1. I started late and I'm just hitting my stride:)
2. I can do a 1-arm plange, the splits, and all sorts of crazy things and you know what it makes me FEEL GOOD!
3. I feel younger every year instead of older
4. I like feeling good in my own skin
5. I think being challenged makes you grow
6, I love the journey, I'm excited to wake up each and every day striving to be a better me.
7. I've experience that pushing myself keeps me feeling young and breeds confidence.
8. I improve each and every year and learn new skills.
9. I love being amazed by all of the other women and being a part of something greater then me:)

I think its important for people to realize age is a mind-set and staying vital is really all about pushing forward and setting goals regardless of the outcome. When you reach for something you are one step closer to it and one step further away from where you used to be. Until all of the sudden you're on this journey and its called AMAZING!

The heck with worrying about what other people think! AMAZE yourself! Celebrate yourself each and every day by getting out their and living your life unabashedly, unapologetically, being your AUTHENTIC SELF! LIVE LOUD!

Are you on a journey or a mission?

Are you on a journey or a mission? There is nothing wrong with being on either one but it's good to be clear about which one you're on!

When you are on a journey you don't know where you're headed and you are unsure of where you'll end up. You may get blown around by the wind and feel like you are bouncing around like a ping pong ball. You are unsure yet of how to get where you're going. A journey is more about the experience of traveling from one destination to the next.  Many of us are focused so much on the destination we forget to enjoy the journey. My philosophy is you are almost always on a journey, so you might as well enjoy it.

"A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it" John Steinbeck

 I asked a few Facebook friends what the word Journey meant to them,  these are their responses;
JOURNEY! Rebecca Heck -"Dancing in my room to " Journeys" Escape Album when I was Young !LOL/ "Also ...... Starting every day with goals to reach and enjoying the ride of reaching them and making new ones to always improve so the Journey and improvements Never End!!!!
Angelique Berquist- "The good the bad the ugly!"

I believe half of achieving anything  is knowing what you want and fearlessly going after it

When you are on a mission you know what you want and everything you do has purpose and a set intention! Your mind is set on what you want to accomplish and you set plans in motion to accomplish your mission. You have a detailed plan and are 100 percent committed to backing that up with action.    You will move heaven and earth to reach your goal. You have calculated the risks and the cost to reaching your end goal. You can't rest until your mission is accomplished and will do whatever it takes to reach your objective, whether is to run the extra mile or swim the ocean or eat that yucky butternut squash your trainer is always pushing on you. A mission moves you and drives you to do the things that will take you to completion.

On a Mission
Lisa Babcock- If you are on a mission, there is more of a sense of urgency. Life is a journey, and I hope mine is a long one.

Linda Mitchell-  I think it's important to have both! I'm enjoying my journey more because I'm on a mission.  My mission at CHICKFIT is to help women love themselves when they look in the mirror and have the ability to love themselves transfer into loving and giving support to one another. Self improvement equals empowerment."

Take The Challenge!

During the week I am always up early getting my workout in; on Saturdays I usually sleep in so my husband can get his workout in early. This morning after my husband left, I heard the treadmill going and went down stairs only to discover that my youngest son Jake was getting his workout in and I figured it would be awhile which would put me way behind on various projects I wanted to get done. My whole family has really been inspired to get fit lately, so rather than stall progress, I figured I, the all-year around fitness person, would have to wait.

Usually I like to do an outdoor workout on the weekends so I poked my head outside and thermometer says 17 degrees. Brrrrrrr! even my dog  Buster didn't want to be outside.  So I decided while I was waiting to workout I would get on FB and check out the scene. On the first post I came to, my client Amy who's a runner is bundling up for her training and in the second post I read she's done.  Mmm well what the heck I'll give it a whirl, so with a thermal shirt, hoodie, jacket, coat, long johns, sweats, thermal gloves, and a toboggan I set off for the track. In my Christmas with the Kranks gear I wondered how in the world I  was going to be able to move let alone run with all those clothes LOL. I certainly could have given Jaimie Lee Curtis a run for her money in this get-up.

When I got to the track I had to walk a good way to even get there because the place was jam packed for a basketball game. As I turned the corner I began wondering what I was thinking: the track and the bleachers were completely covered with snow. I thought about turning around and going home but I thought well after all this effort let me at least just see what I can do. So I went over to the bleachers and was thinking to myself, there is just no way I'm going to be able to do this...... well there was a hand rail. Never one to back down from a challenge, I had to give it a go. The first 3 were a little rough.... but 35 bleachers later it flipping rocked!!!! As I ran sprints and bleachers in the snow I felt like I was invincible; like I could do anything. I truly felt like ROCKY in training. The takeaway I get from all of this besides an incredible workout, is an analogy... How many times are we like that in life, thinking there is just no way I'm going to be able to do this and want to walk away when something looks insurmountable, when in reality if we would just stop waiting and get started by putting one foot in front of the other, we could achieve anything. When you do something challenging that you never knew you could do it makes you believe in yourself and that my friends is the real take away.

The next time a challenge presents itself, take the challenge because what's on the other side of pushing yourself is always worth it.

LindaLu's Ultimate Challenge

  Linda-Lu's Ultimate Challenge
By Linda Mitchell www.lindalufitness.com
With the healthcare crisis upon us, I thought this would be a timely and relevant blog post.
Western medicine generally speaking only looks at the symptom of what’s wrong and then slaps a medicine on their patients that have side effects 10 times worse than the problem. Now with the affordable health care bill (that wording alone is a joke) our healthcare is about to go through the roof.

So I must ask this question, have you ever considered taking charge of your own health? I for one do not want to leave my health in the hands of the federal government. I am 51 and I'm not on medication of any kind, by choice I go to a holistic doctor which I pay for out of pocket. My holistic doctor always gives natural solutions. I truly believe a pound of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I eat a whole foods diet and stay away from anything overly processed as much as possible and I make sure to break a sweat daily.

Most chronic disease can be prevented by just managing what goes in your mouth. Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Obesity and cigarette induced Lung cancer in many cases are entirely preventable. I heard this statement somewhere recently and wholeheartedly agree, "Food is the most abused anxiety drug and exercise the most underutilized anti-depressant."  The alternative is also true; food can be your medicine and exercise your drug. It is worth taking the time to be mindful of what you eat.   Your healthy meals aren't just going to magically appear for you, so you must be intentional with what you do.  I ask people all the time where they live, and they reply with an address but the reality is we live in our body and that is the home we better take care of.

The real truth about healthcare is it starts with you. Be your own best friend.  Make the choice today to take your power back and begin investing your time into doing your own research on the benefits and healing properties of natural food.  I personally invite you to join my 6 weeks Whole Foods Challenge, where the focus is better health and weight loss is just a by-product.  Make your self-health a priority. Any age rocks when you’re healthy and you fuel your body with natural substances.  Reach your goals and your dreams naturally... by cutting all of the crap out of your diet and breaking a sweat daily. LindaLu's Ultimate Challenge Starts October 21st. Message me for details. lindalu7782@gmail.com

Surfs Up!

When I turned 50, it’s like I woke up one morning to the realization that my life was half way over. I thought to myself if I’m going to do something, now is the time to do it. I consciously made the decision to take ownership for my life and do the things I've always dreamed of.  The first thing I decided to do, was to stop making excuses why I couldn't do the things that I wanted to do.  The next step I took was to stop blaming others for holding me back.  Instead I began saying these kinds of statements to myself: “I want this and I’m worthy of it. If there is an obstacle in my way I am going to overcome it. This is my life and I’m going to live it, not be controlled any longer by what others think I should or should not do.”

I made a bucket list of everything I had ever dreamed of doing and began marking things off my list. The list goes something like this.  I went surfing, white water rafting, completed a Navy Seal Obstacle Course, rode the New York Subway, took a pole dancing class, signed up for school at Integrative Nutrition, entered a National fitness Competition, trademarked a name for my business and started my own bikini team. The year isn't up yet, next week I'm going to Philly to run "The ROCKY stairs".  I have to admit I was afraid at first whether I would be able to balance it all, but the time passes anyway why not go for your dreams?

When I took my first surfing lesson I smiled ear to ear the entire time!  I was having so much fun just trying to get up on the surf board it didn't matter if I got up." Yes, you bet your sweet bippy I did get up! Surfing was a total blast. You know a lot of times all the fun is just in going for it, making the attempt to do something new.

I am now a graduate of The Institute Of Integrative Nutrition. I placed 3 times in The Top 5 at Fitness America at Age 50. I am the CEO of CHICKFIT and will be competing again in November with my lovely CHICKFIT Bikini Team.

Being beautiful to me is going after life the way you were meant to live it, FULLY and authentically.  You can be the author of your life. Age is just a number; you can define what you want to be, by what choose to do.

Slow and Steady Gets Results

Slow and Steady Get Results

Scenario.......Two people start exercising, one says to the other "OMG I can't keep up with this, it's too hard, everyone is leaving me behind, and besides I'm old and overweight." the other says, "Well, I know if I keep with this I am going to get in better shape. I want this so bad I am not going to give up.". The first person ducked out of class and never came back, the second person lost 25 pounds in 10 weeks.

I see this time and time again, people come to class so worried about what everyone else is doing, whether they are keeping up with the 25 year old doing 100 reps at the speed of light.

My advice is slow and steady wins the race, don't blow yourself out, don't worry about what everyone else is doing, you will get there in your own time. Focus only on what you can do today, then tomorrow it will be more, and before you know it, peeps will be having trouble keeping up with you.

This may be contrary to what most people believe when they begin bootcamp or any type of exercise regimen  but you don't have to be the best or work out the hardest to get great results!

The people who usually get the most results are the quiet determined ones who put forth consistent effort and never quit.

Finding Your Passion

Fit Over Forty Column/ Ms Fitness Magazine
Finding Your Passion
By Linda Mitchell www.lindalufitness.com

I believe for most of us the time will come when we begin reevaluating our choices in life; asking ourselves:  is this really how I want to live the rest of my life?  You may feel you are stuck in a miserable situation, whether you are in a dead-end job, overweight and out of shape, or you’re in a loveless relationship.   Many people out there are living their life just to get by and survive.  More often than not people may even feel a little bit afraid to take the necessary steps to change their situation.   You can either just survive, or you can choose to succeed.  Success comes by following your heart and finding your passion.   It’s never too late to choose a new path or strengthen an old one.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, dream, discover.”
- Mark Twain

To identify your passion, try these three simple steps.
Find your passion
1.      What brings a permanent smile to your face?
2.      What can you see yourself doing all day long?
3.      Do you love it so much you would do it for free?

Face your fears
1.      Ask yourself, what’s the worst thing that can happen?  Prepare to accept or improve upon it.
2.      Identify the risk involved. Take a chance.
3.      Have faith and take the first step.

Take Action
1.      Prioritize and make a list of necessary steps to reach your goal
2.      Start small and everything will begin fall in place, one by one.
3.      Get Support  from those that will encourage, motivate, and inspire you on your journey

Recently, I caught up with life coach and career expert Polly Giblin (www.pollygiblin.com).  Polly’s advice on finding your purpose and passion is to ask yourself: what’s your heart saying?  Polly said, for most of us, finding our way in the world has more to do with what others think we should be doing, than what our heart tells us to do. She says when you allow yourself to recognize the small voice within; you can begin taking new actions toward living your dreams.

When you actually decide what your passions are, you may feel that they are a little foolish and crazy.  If so, you are probably on the right track to brilliance.  Be a pioneer, instead of going down the path where everyone else is.   Blaze your own trail; that is what will set you apart and make you great.  There will always be naysayers and those who stand on the sidelines and criticize.  Wouldn’t you rather get out there and live your life then watch it go by wishing:  I could a, would a, should a?  The more steps you take towards your dreams, the happier you will become.
